Chia seeds may boost digestion, energy in just 2 weeks: Experts highlight key benefits

New Delhi, Mar 22: A tiny superfood could bring noticeable changes to your body in just two weeks—chia seeds, say health experts, are emerging as a powerful addition to daily diets.

Packed with fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, protein and antioxidants, chia seeds are known for their dense nutritional profile despite their small size.

According to gastroenterologist Saurabh Sethi, consuming one to two tablespoons of chia seeds daily for about 14 days may help improve digestion, enhance energy levels and support heart health.

He explained that chia seeds are rich in soluble fibre, which absorbs water and forms a gel-like substance in the stomach. This not only promotes regular bowel movements but also nourishes beneficial gut bacteria, improving overall digestive health.

The seeds’ ability to absorb water also helps in keeping one full for longer periods, which can aid in appetite control and stabilising blood sugar levels.

In addition, chia seeds are a valuable source of plant-based omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, which may help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and contribute to better heart health.

Sethi further noted that their low glycaemic index and gel-forming property slow down digestion and carbohydrate absorption, preventing sudden spikes in blood glucose levels after meals.

For best results, he recommends soaking chia seeds overnight and consuming them in the morning. They can be taken with water or milk, making it an easy and nutritious addition to daily routines.

Experts suggest that while chia seeds offer multiple health benefits, they should be consumed in moderation as part of a balanced diet.
