KSU moves Kerala HC against BJP candidate over ‘communal’ remarks

Daijiworld Media Network - Kochi

Kochi, Mar 22: The Congress-affiliated student outfit Kerala Students Union has approached the Kerala High Court against alleged communal remarks made by BJP-led NDA candidate B Gopalakrishnan in the Guruvayur Assembly constituency.

According to KSU, the complaint pertains to a campaign video in which Gopalakrishnan allegedly claimed that the constituency had not elected a Hindu MLA for nearly five decades and accused both Left and Congress-led fronts of not fielding candidates from the community.

In the purported video, he is also alleged to have said that Guruvayur—an international pilgrimage centre known as the land of Lord Guruvayurappan—has been under the control of “temple thieves” for the past five decades, while questioning the absence of a Hindu MLA in the constituency.

KSU Thrissur district president Gokul Guruvayoor said in a Facebook post that a writ petition has been filed seeking action, including the disqualification of the candidate.

The student body has also submitted complaints to the district collector, district police chief, state election authorities and the Guruvayur ACP, alleging that the remarks were aimed at creating communal divisions to influence voters.

There was no immediate response from the BJP leader on the allegations.
