Chennai, Mar 21: Actor Bharath has revealed new details about the upcoming sequel to the 2019 hit film ‘Kaalidas’, confirming that Kaalidas 2 will be an emotional crime thriller rather than a conventional action-packed cop drama.
Speaking at the trailer launch, Bharath said the film explores “emotional crime” alongside traditional crime narratives, adding that his portrayal of a police officer will continue the subtle style seen in the first film. “In both films, I haven’t screamed at anyone, lifted a gun, or delivered punch dialogues. You’ll experience the same subtlety in ‘Kaalidas 2’ as you did in the first installment,” he explained.

Reflecting on the franchise’s journey, Bharath noted that the original ‘Kaalidas’ became a major success in 2019, marking a pivotal comeback in his career. The pandemic caused a delay of over two years, but the actor maintained a desire to collaborate again with director Sri Senthil. “Deep down, I was particular that I would have to work with him again. He is among the cream of technicians, very sincere, and an actor can safely entrust themselves to him,” Bharath said, praising Senthil in front of the director at the event.
He added that while the sequel was initially envisioned as a compact crime thriller, the scale expanded thanks to producer support. “This is a big film for me. I have faith in this project and I’m sure it will deliver,” he stated.
‘Kaalidas 2’ is produced by Five Star K. Senthil and Dr. N. Yogeshwaran and will feature Ajay Karthi alongside Bharath. The ensemble cast also includes Bhavani Sre, Sangita (returning to the big screen), Abarnathi, Ananth Nag, TM Karthik, and ‘Singam’ Jayavel.
On the technical side, the film boasts music by Sam CS, cinematography by Suresh Bala, and editing by Bhuvan Srinivasan. G Durairaj serves as the production designer, with Aravindan Anand handling the screenplay and ‘Kaliyuga’ A. Raja overseeing art direction.
Choreography is by Bobby, stunts by Om Prakash, audiography by Tapas Nayak, song lyrics by Mohanraj, and costumes by Dorothy Jai (DJ).
The sequel has already generated significant buzz among fans, fueled by the return of Sangita, the continuation of the popular storyline, and the high-profile technical team behind the project.
