Panaji, Mar 21: Goa has emerged as one of the top-performing power distribution regions in the country, securing the third position in its category in the Distribution Utilities Ranking (DUR) Report for 2024–25 released by the Ministry of Power.

The Goa Power Department scored 78.5 points, placing third among 41 comparable utilities and 11th overall out of 66 utilities evaluated nationwide.

Within its category, Goa ranked behind Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited of Gujarat and TP Northern Odisha Distribution Limited of Odisha, reflecting strong and consistent performance across key indicators.

The rankings were announced during the Power Minister’s Summit and were based on six parameters, including financial and operational efficiency, consumer service delivery, renewable purchase obligations (RPO), smart metering, demand-side management, and resource adequacy.

Goa excelled in renewable purchase obligations and system metering, achieving perfect scores in both areas. However, its performance in demand-side response was relatively low, scoring 19, which affected its overall ranking.

The report noted that Goa could further improve by strengthening demand-side initiatives, including wider adoption of Time-of-Day (ToD) tariffs and expanding ToD metering across consumer segments.

In other metrics, Goa recorded 84.8 in Annual Integrated Rating, 76.1 in consumer services, and 75.2 in resource adequacy, indicating a balanced performance.

The DUR framework aims to benchmark utility performance across India while promoting transparency, efficiency, and reforms in the power sector. The latest rankings underline Goa’s steady progress in modernising its power distribution network, even as it focuses on areas needing improvement.
