Ramadoss, Sasikala forge new alliance ahead of TN Assembly polls

Chennai, Mar 21: In a notable political development in Tamil Nadu, S. Ramadoss and V. K. Sasikala have come together to form a new political alliance, signalling a fresh realignment ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

The alliance has announced its intention to contest all 234 constituencies, with polling scheduled to be held in a single phase on April 23.

The move comes against the backdrop of internal challenges faced by both leaders. Ramadoss, founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, has been embroiled in a leadership dispute with his son Anbumani Ramadoss. Despite founding the party, he has been unable to legally reclaim its symbol or leadership position.

Meanwhile, Sasikala, a close confidante of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, has struggled to reassert her influence within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. After failing to unify the party, she launched her own outfit, the All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.

Sources said the decision to join forces was taken after a series of discussions, with both leaders viewing the alliance as an opportunity to regain political relevance and consolidate their support bases.

The announcement followed a nearly two-hour meeting held at Ramadoss’s residence in Thailapuram near Tindivanam in Villupuram district.

“We have entered into an agreement to contest the elections in alliance with AIPTMMK. This alliance has already created a strong impact in Tamil Nadu and has unsettled several opponents. More parties are expected to join us,” Ramadoss said.
