Faridabad, Mar 20: A youth allegedly forced a woman to consume a poisonous substance after she refused to break off her engagement, before attempting to take his own life, police said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday near a flyover in Kaili village. Both the accused and the woman are currently in stable condition and undergoing treatment.
According to police, the woman, a resident of Palwal district and a teacher at a private school, stated that she had been friends with Monu Bhati, a resident of Noida, for nearly eight years and remained in regular contact with him.

She said her engagement was finalised in January this year, following which she stopped communicating with him.
On Thursday, Bhati allegedly came to her school, took her in his car on some pretext, and drove towards a secluded area near Kaili village.
During the journey, he reportedly pressured her to call off the engagement. When she refused and expressed her intent to end contact, he allegedly forced her to consume a poisonous substance and then ingested it himself.
As their condition worsened, the accused took the woman to a nearby private hospital.
Police from Sector 58 police station reached the hospital after receiving information and recorded the woman’s statement. Based on her complaint, an FIR has been registered against the accused.
“A case has been registered and investigation is underway. Both individuals are stable,” a police spokesperson said.
