Zomato raises platform fee; rivals face pressure amid rising competition

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, Mar 20: Zomato has increased the platform fee charged to users by Rs 2.40 per order, as per details available on its app, adding to the overall cost of food delivery for customers.

The revised platform fee now stands at Rs 14.90 per order on a pre-GST basis, up from Rs 12.50 earlier. This marks another hike by the company, with the previous increase having been implemented in September 2025.

Rival Swiggy is currently charging a platform fee of Rs 14.99 per order, including taxes. Both companies have historically mirrored each other’s pricing strategies in this segment.

The latest increase comes amid growing competition in the food delivery market. Urban mobility startup Rapido has recently entered the space with its food delivery service, Ownly, launched in Bengaluru. The company has stated that it will not levy additional charges on customers or restaurants beyond a delivery fee.

Industry observers say Rapido’s move could intensify competition, particularly at a time when customers have been voicing concerns over multiple charges added to food delivery bills.

The hike also coincides with rising crude oil prices, which impact delivery logistics and operational costs for platforms, restaurants, and delivery partners.

For consumers, the increase translates into a higher total bill per order, even as the food delivery sector continues to see new entrants and shifting pricing dynamics.
