New Delhi, Mar 20: With Eid-ul-Fitr a day away, security has been significantly intensified across Dwarka district in West Delhi, particularly in Uttam Nagar, which continues to remain tense following a recent killing earlier this month.
Police said over 100 pickets have been set up across sensitive areas, with personnel deployed at key junctions and on rooftops to closely monitor movement. Surveillance has also been strengthened around Uttam Nagar East metro station, in line with directions from the Delhi High Court to ensure preparedness amid concerns of possible unrest during the festival.
A senior police officer said elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful celebrations. “We have made detailed deployment plans and are ready to respond swiftly to any situation,” the officer stated.

Additional forces have been stationed in Hastsal village, where the incident occurred, along with nearby areas. Joint deployment of Delhi Police and central armed forces has been carried out at strategic locations.
The tension stems from the March 4 death of Tarun (26), who succumbed to injuries sustained during a clash between two neighbouring families in JJ Colony on Holi. According to police, the altercation was triggered after a water balloon thrown by a girl accidentally hit a woman from the other family.
The incident sparked protests, during which two vehicles allegedly linked to the accused were set on fire. So far, police have apprehended 14 individuals, including two minors, in connection with the case.
Security has been further tightened around mosques, Eidgahs and other congregation points expecting large gatherings. Area domination exercises, including regular foot patrols and vehicle checks, are being conducted across the district.
Police have also intensified monitoring of social media platforms to prevent the spread of inflammatory content. Officials said several objectionable posts have already been flagged and action taken.
Mixed-population areas have been categorised as sensitive and are under constant surveillance. Teams have also been deployed at elevated points in select locations to enhance vigilance.
As part of confidence-building measures, flag marches have been conducted in several localities and will continue during Eid.
Despite visible security presence, unease persists among residents. Pradeep Shukla, president of the Uttam Nagar RWA, said the situation appears under control but anxiety remains. “There is heavy barricading, and movement has reduced. It feels unusually quiet. People are still worried, but we are hoping things remain peaceful,” he said.
