Glass piece allegedly found in chocolate sparks food safety alarm online

Mumbai, Mar 19: A social media post alleging the presence of a glass fragment inside a dark chocolate bar linked to quick-commerce platform Instamart has triggered widespread concern over food safety standards.

The claim, shared on X by a user identified as Pras SwiftMojo, stated that the chocolate—sold under the NOICE brand—contained a sharp piece of glass embedded within it. The issue reportedly came to light after the user’s child complained of being pricked while eating a piece of the chocolate.

The allegation has sparked strong reactions online, with users expressing alarm over the potential risk, especially as the product was consumed by a child. Many termed the incident “dangerous” and called for stricter checks in food production and delivery.

Experts say that if such contamination is confirmed, it indicates a serious lapse in manufacturing processes. A food technologist responding to the incident noted that food production units are required to maintain strict control over glass materials, including use of shatterproof fixtures and proper monitoring systems.

According to experts, the presence of glass in a finished product could result from either foreign object contamination entering the machinery or a breakage during production that went undetected—both pointing to critical failures in safety protocols.

In such situations, standard procedure requires immediate shutdown of the production line, detailed investigation, and reconciliation of all fragments. If any pieces are unaccounted for, the entire batch is typically recalled or destroyed.

The incident also raises questions about the effectiveness of hazard control systems like HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), designed to prevent such risks.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the brand regarding the allegation. However, the episode has intensified calls for accountability and stricter oversight to ensure consumer safety, particularly in food products.

Authorities and consumers alike are awaiting clarity on the matter, as concerns continue to mount over potential lapses in quality control.
