New Delhi, Mar 18: The RailOne App developed by Indian Railways has been downloaded 2.57 crore times and now handles an average of 7.64 lakh ticket bookings every day, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said that about 88 per cent of reserved railway tickets are currently booked online, reflecting the growing adoption of digital services by passengers.

To make ticket booking easier, Indian Railways introduced the RailOne App, which brings both the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) onto a single digital platform. The app also integrates multiple passenger services including platform ticket booking, train enquiries, PNR status checking, and grievance support through RailMadad.

Officials said the application includes advanced security and privacy features and is available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

Passengers can also book reserved tickets through the website or mobile app of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which manages the railway’s online ticketing services.

Apart from digital platforms, Indian Railways continues to rely on a wide network of ticketing agents to expand access to railway services. These include halt agents, Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevak operators, station ticket booking agents and M-UTS Sahayak providers for unreserved tickets. Meanwhile, Yatri Ticket Suvidha Kendra licensees assist passengers with both reserved and unreserved ticket bookings.

According to the government, these schemes also promote self-employment by allowing eligible individuals, including educated unemployed youth, to work as ticketing agents. The initiative has helped improve access to railway ticketing services, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

Agent appointments are granted for a fixed tenure under specific terms and conditions, and the railway authorities regularly invite fresh applications when existing tenures expire.
