Moradabad, Mar 15: A 25-year-old engineer working with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) was arrested for allegedly murdering his twin sister in a brutal knife attack in Moradabad, with the post-mortem report revealing the extent of the assault.

According to police, the accused, Hardik Malhotra, allegedly stabbed his sister Himshikha multiple times during an argument at their home on the evening of March 7. Senior police officials described the scene as one of the “most brutal murder sites” they had encountered.

Moradabad (City) Superintendent of Police Kumar Ranvijay said the post-mortem report found at least 50 deep stab wounds on the victim’s neck, chest, abdomen, arms, legs, shoulders and face.

“The report revealed the extent of the assault. Several vital organs, including the heart, liver and kidneys, were severely damaged. Almost no part of the body was spared,” the officer said.

Police said the motive for the crime was linked to a failed relationship. Investigations revealed that Hardik had been in an online relationship with a woman from another faith for the past seven months.

The two reportedly communicated through social media and had never met in person. The relationship ended a few weeks before the incident, leaving him distressed. According to investigators, Himshikha had advised her brother to focus on his career.

The siblings, originally from Badaun, had been living together in Gurugram, where Himshikha worked at a private firm and was also preparing for MBA examinations. Hardik told police that he had quit his job as a software engineer a year ago and was trying to build a career in social media content development.

Police said the twins had come to their home in Moradabad for the Holi festival when another argument broke out between them over the same issue. During the altercation, Hardik allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attacked her.

Their mother, Neelima Malhotra, who had separated from her husband years ago, works as an assistant manager in a private insurance firm in Moradabad.

Police said that after the incident, Hardik drove to his mother’s office and brought her home. “When she entered the house and saw what had happened, she screamed. Hardik then attacked her as well,” Ranvijay said.

She sustained multiple injuries in the attack but survived and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital, police added.
