Mumbai, Mar 11: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has expressed strong confidence in the upcoming action film Dhurandhar: The Revenge, predicting that it could become a massive blockbuster if it performs strongly at the box office.

In an interview with Variety India, Varma praised director Aditya Dhar and said he expects the sequel to build on the success and momentum of the first film, Dhurandhar.

“I think it will be fantastic,” Varma said, adding that audiences are already invested in the characters and storyline established in the first part.

He also noted that both parts of the film were shot simultaneously, which means the sequel will continue the narrative seamlessly. “It’s like one film split into two parts, so I don’t think audiences will have unrealistic expectations,” he said.

Varma compared the structure of the project to the Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali: The Conclusion films, suggesting that the second part could potentially perform even better commercially.

The director further said that if the film manages to earn between ?1,500 crore and ?2,000 crore globally, it could significantly impact the dominance of South Indian films at the box office.

“If ‘Dhurandhar 2’ creates numbers like ?1500–2000 crore, then all the South films will go for a toss,” he remarked, while adding that many South films still follow an “old-school” approach to filmmaking.

Varma also praised the action style of the film, saying it could influence how action choreography is designed in future Indian films. According to him, the emphasis appears to be on realism rather than exaggerated stunts.

After the trailer of Dhurandhar: The Revenge was released online, Varma shared his excitement on the social media platform X, writing: “This is STRATOSPHERIC LEVEL… @AdityaDharFilms is on a RAMPAGE of REVENGE #Dhurandhar2.”

The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role and also features Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun in key roles. The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19, 2026.
