Guwahati, Mar 9: In a major anti-drug operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in collaboration with the CRPF, arrested two traffickers and recovered 524.9 kilograms of Ganja worth an estimated Rs 2.6 crore, officials confirmed on Monday.
The seizure took place on Sunday at Khatkhati, Assam, after the NCB’s Guwahati Zonal Unit received specific intelligence. The contraband was concealed in a specially fabricated cavity inside a truck, attempting to evade detection, according to the official statement.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Ganja originated from the forest areas of Senapati district in Manipur and was being transported to Birbhum district in West Bengal.
This marks the second significant drug seizure by the NCB Guwahati Zonal Unit in less than a month. On February 7, 11.7 kg of Methamphetamine, valued at approximately Rs 9.5 crore, was seized near Silchar in an earlier joint operation.
With Assembly Elections approaching in Assam and West Bengal, the NCB has intensified surveillance and operations against drug trafficking networks.
According to NCB North Eastern Region data, in the past two months, drugs worth an estimated Rs 105 crore have been seized. A total of 21 cases have been registered, 40 individuals arrested, and the haul includes 1,036 kg of Ganja, 72.5 kg of Methamphetamine, 17 kg of Heroin, 6.25 kg of Morphine, and 13,816 bottles of CBCS.
Authorities stressed their continued vigilance against drug networks to curb the flow of illegal substances in the region.
