New Delhi, Mar 8: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday underscored the pivotal role of empowered women in driving social progress, calling them the strongest force in shaping India’s future. She emphasized that educated, self-reliant women are not just contributors but builders of a nation that is “alive with culture, knowledge, and potential.”
President Murmu shared these insights while addressing the concluding session of the two-day national conference for women thinkers, “Bharti – Naari Se Narayani,” held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The conference gathered women leaders and thinkers from across various fields to discuss empowerment, education, leadership, and nation-building.

Drawing from Indian tradition, the President noted that women have historically been more than guardians of the household—they are symbols of knowledge, strength, and prosperity. She highlighted the achievements of Indian women in fields such as education, science, administration, sports, entrepreneurship, and social service, emphasizing that true societal progress is only possible when women are provided equal opportunities, respect, and security.
“Women must have the freedom to make decisions, live with dignity, and access education and employment on an equal footing,” President Murmu said, adding that women-led development is rapidly gaining momentum in India today. She encouraged young girls to pursue their dreams with confidence, stressing that empowered women strengthen families, communities, and the nation as a whole.
At the closing ceremony, V. Shanta Kumari, Chief of Rashtra Sevika Samiti, echoed these sentiments, urging women to cultivate their abilities and gain respect through meaningful contributions. “By moving from ‘Naari to Narayani,’ women can make their presence felt in every sphere, while staying connected to the roots of Indian culture,” she said, calling on women to serve as role models.
President Murmu further stressed that women should use their knowledge to create a positive environment, strengthening families and, ultimately, society and the nation.
Shivani V., Secretary of the Bhartiya Vidvat Parishad, explained that the conference aimed to transform women’s journey from silent strength to decisive power. Around 1,500 women thinkers participated in discussions on leadership, self-reliance, education, and the broader role of women in shaping India’s future.
Organized jointly by Bhartiya Vidvat Parishad, Rashtra Sevika Samiti, and Sharanya Organisation, the conference provided a platform for women to share experiences, exchange ideas, and chart actionable steps toward women-led nation building.
