New Delhi, Mar 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Sunday inaugurate key new stretches of the Delhi Metro, including the Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur section of the Pink Line, completing India’s first operational ring metro network.

The 12.3-km Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur stretch will complete the circular alignment of the Pink Line, making it the country’s first ring metro corridor. The new section includes nine elevated stations – Majlis Park, Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur – improving connectivity between north and northeast parts of Delhi.

The corridor also features key infrastructure elements, including a new bridge across the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct carrying both a metro line and a road flyover.

Alongside this, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the 9.9-km Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park elevated extension of the Delhi Metro Magenta Line. The corridor will connect localities such as Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura–Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Badli Mor and Bhalaswa through seven stations.

Parts of the Magenta Line reach a height of around 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest elevated sections in the Delhi Metro network. With the extension, the total length of the line will increase to nearly 49 km. At present, the Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension stretch is operational.

The two metro corridors form part of development projects worth around Rs 33,500 crore and are expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity and reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters in the national capital.

During the event, Modi will also lay the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro project.

These include the Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor, the Aerocity–Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal-1 corridor, and the Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj corridor.

The 9.9-km Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Indraprastha stretch will be built underground and is expected to enhance connectivity to key landmarks in central Delhi, including India Gate, Central Secretariat and Bharat Mandapam.

The Aerocity–Terminal 1 extension will be a 2.26-km underground corridor linking the Golden Line to the domestic terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Another project, the 3.9-km Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj elevated corridor, will improve connectivity in south Delhi and enhance access from Faridabad and Ballabhgarh to the airport through the existing Violet Line.

Apart from the metro projects, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for redevelopment works worth around Rs 15,200 crore under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) programme.

Redevelopment projects at Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Sriniwaspuri will provide more than 9,350 modern flats for government employees along with nearly 48 lakh square feet of office space.

Before the inauguration ceremony, Modi is scheduled to visit the newly constructed GPRA Type-5 quarters in Sarojini Nagar and hand over keys to women allottees.

Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, said the metro expansion marks a major step toward a faster, smoother and environmentally friendly public transport system in the capital. She added that the projects will help reduce traffic congestion and pollution by encouraging greater use of public transport.
