Six children drown in water-filled pit in Bihar’s East Champaran

Motihari, Mar 4: In a tragic incident, six children, including five girls, drowned while taking a bath in a water-filled pit in Bihar’s East Champaran district, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place late Tuesday evening at Lohargava village under the Kesariya police station limits.

The deceased were identified as Diksha Kumari (12), Sonakshi Kumari (9), Priya Kumari (7), Arayadhya Kumari (11), Choti Kumari (8), and Prince Kumar (11).

According to Rahul Kumar, Station House Officer of Kesariya police station, one of the girls reportedly slipped into the pit and began drowning while bathing. “In an attempt to rescue her, the other children jumped into the water but unfortunately drowned,” he told reporters.

Officials from the district administration rushed to the spot upon receiving information, recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination.

Police said further investigation is underway.
