Patna, Mar 3: The entry of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, into active politics has been finalised, with the formal announcement expected shortly, senior JD(U) leader and state minister Sharwan Kumar said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Sharwan Kumar said the decision has been taken after sustained demands from party workers and supporters over the years.

“It is now clear and finalised that Nishant Kumar will join active politics. The party will make a formal announcement in a day or two. Workers have been demanding his entry for several years, and there is enthusiasm within the party ahead of Holi,” he said.

The minister indicated that Nishant Kumar would be entrusted with a significant organisational role within the Janata Dal (United).

“He will be given a bigger responsibility in the party. The exact role will be decided in a day or two,” Sharwan Kumar added.

When asked about speculation that Nishant could be nominated to the Rajya Sabha, the minister did not rule out the possibility, saying, “Anything can happen.”

Sharwan Kumar, who has been part of the Bihar cabinet for over a decade and is considered close to the Chief Minister, said the move is expected to energise party cadres.

The development is being closely watched in Bihar’s political circles, as it marks the first formal political step by Nishant Kumar, who has largely stayed away from public life until now.
