Margao, Mar 1: Following protests by Mirabag villagers against the proposed bandhara, state BJP president Damodar Naik on Sunday assured that the government will not push through any project that the local community opposes.
Naik said the chief minister has been made aware of the agitation and advised to review the situation before taking any decision. He emphasised that while development initiatives are intended for public benefit, they lose meaning if opposed by the very people they are meant to serve.
“The BJP’s effort is always to improve the lives of citizens, but if the people do not support a project, it should not be pursued,” Naik stated.

The proposed bandhara has been a point of contention, with residents expressing fears of potential flooding that could damage homes and livelihoods. Tensions escalated recently when villagers gheraoed the WRD assistant engineer, demanding that the government cancel the project.
