Paradip, Feb 28: The 23-year-old woman who fell to her death from a four-storey building in Tarenigada on February 23 was allegedly raped twice by two different men before being pushed off the rooftop, Paradip police said on Friday.

According to Jagatsinghpur SP Ankit Verma, the victim was first raped by her friend, Somanath Ojha of Dhinkia, who later deserted her. She was then picked up by Suva Kumar Singh (24) of Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and taken to the Tarenigada building, where Singh sexually assaulted her and pushed her off the roof, apparently to stage it as a suicide.

Police said on February 22, the woman had visited Sarala temple with Ojha. At a secluded location, Ojha allegedly raped her and dropped her at Rahama bus stand before fleeing. That same night, Singh, returning from Angul on a motorcycle, found her alone at the bus stand and took her to his rented house in Tarenigada, eventually assaulting her on the rooftop before pushing her off.

Residents found the semi-naked body near the building gate the next day. Her dress had caught on a gas pipeline, initially suggesting a fall from the rooftop. Police seized the body and questioned seven youths, including Singh, living in the rented house. Her identity was later confirmed after her mobile phone was recovered and switched on.

Investigations revealed that her brother had filed a missing person complaint at Tirtol police station on the same night. Ojha reportedly confessed to the first assault, exploiting the woman with false promises of marriage while she pursued a computer training course after graduation.

Both accused have been arrested and produced in court. Police have seized Singh’s motorcycle used in the crime and the mobile phones of both men.
