Bomb threat emails trigger security checks at two private schools in Chandigarh

Daijiworld Media Network - Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Feb 27: Two private schools in Chandigarh received bomb threat emails on Friday, prompting authorities to conduct extensive anti-sabotage checks, officials said.

Soon after the emails were received, fire brigade personnel, bomb disposal squads, dog squads and an ambulance were rushed to the school premises. Security was tightened and thorough searches were carried out as a precautionary measure.

Officials said similar bomb threat emails have been reported in recent weeks from educational institutions in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala as well as in parts of Haryana. However, all previous threats were later declared hoaxes after detailed verification.

A few days ago, the Punjab Civil Secretariat also received a bomb threat email. Following a comprehensive search operation, no suspicious or explosive material was found there either.

Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the emails and identify those responsible for issuing the threats.
