Indore, Feb 27: Five persons were hospitalised after experiencing breathing difficulties following a suspected gas leak from a cylinder being dismantled by a scrap dealer in Indore, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred late Thursday night within the limits of the Raoji Bazaar police station when the dealer allegedly attempted to cut open a cylinder. Shortly thereafter, residents in the surrounding locality began complaining of breathing problems, triggering panic in the area and prompting an immediate emergency response.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Disesh Aggarwal told PTI that five affected individuals were shifted to different hospitals for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the leak had been contained and the situation brought under control.
“The nature of the gas inside the cylinder is yet to be identified,” Aggarwal said, adding that further investigation is under way to ascertain the source and contents of the cylinder.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Madhav Hasani stated that all five patients are currently stable and remain under medical observation.
Police have initiated a probe into the incident and are examining whether safety norms were violated while handling the cylinder.
