Media Release
Mangalutu, Feb 25: The Biodosimetry Laboratory available at the Central Research Laboratory of K S Hegde Medical Academy has been granted accreditation by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) under the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard in the field of Radiological Testing.
This laboratory has the capability to perform specialised biodosimetry tests used to estimate radiation dose in cases of radiation overexposure affecting staff and patients due to nuclear accidents or occupational radiation exposure. The accreditation formally recognises the laboratory’s technical competence to conduct these tests with accuracy and reliability. The certification is valid for four years.

This accreditation under the internationally recognised ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard marks a significant milestone for the institution, and it is stated to be the second laboratory in the country in the private sector to achieve this recognition.
The key implications of this achievement are as follows:
Recognition as a certified facility for radiation emergency preparedness and response.
Legal and regulatory acceptance of the laboratory’s dose assessment reports at national and international platforms.
Laboratory processes fully aligned with global quality management standards.
Enhancement in the quality of research publications emerging from the Central Research Laboratory of K.S. Hegde Medical Academy.
