Srinagar, Feb 21: Seven personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were injured on Saturday after their vehicle met with an accident in the Dagpora area of Srinagar district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the incident took place in Ahmad Nagar when a CRPF bulletproof bunker vehicle reportedly went out of the driver’s control, skidded off the road, and plunged into a nearby water canal. The injured personnel were immediately shifted to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for treatment.

Doctors attending to the injured confirmed that all seven jawans are in stable condition. The injured were identified as Naginder Singh (36), Ajit Kumar Ram (36), Raj Kishore Rai (40), Amit Kumar Yadav (38), Rajdhan Ram (55), Mankar Kumar (40) and Neeraj Kumar (45).
Road accidents remain a significant concern in Jammu and Kashmir, with fatalities frequently attributed to rash driving, over-speeding, overloading, road rage, and failure of two-wheeler riders to wear helmets. The Traffic Department has deployed special enforcement squads to check violations, while petrol pumps have been instructed not to provide fuel to motorcyclists without helmets.
Authorities have also intensified roadside counselling campaigns to raise awareness about traffic regulations and the risks associated with violations. Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have warned of strict penalties for offences such as driving without a licence, minors operating vehicles, and performing stunts on public roads. Under existing laws, vehicle registrations can be cancelled and parents may face imprisonment if a minor is found driving.
Officials noted that the problem of motorcycle stunts, once largely confined to parts of Srinagar, has now spread to several areas across the Valley, including instances involving young riders in south Kashmir.
