Chennai, Feb 21: ‘Jana Nayagan’, the much-awaited final film of Vijay, has been facing an unexpected and prolonged delay after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly refused to issue a censor certificate.
The development had left fans disappointed as the project was stalled indefinitely. However, fresh industry buzz has now rekindled excitement, with reports suggesting that the makers are working towards locking a new release date.

According to updates shared by YouTube channel Valai Pechu, the H Vinoth directorial is unlikely to release anytime soon. Instead, the current plan—if proceedings move smoothly—is to target a June 2026 theatrical release.
Sources indicate that Thursday, June 18, 2026, is under consideration. The date is seen as strategically significant as it precedes Vijay’s 52nd birthday celebrations and aligns with the Muharram long weekend, potentially boosting box office prospects.
The reports have triggered widespread reactions on social media. Fans expressed excitement over the possibility of the film arriving during Vijay’s birthday celebrations and a festive holiday period. However, some posts also pointed to uncertainty, suggesting that if earlier tentative dates are missed, June may become the only viable window.
Amid mounting speculation, global distributor York Cinemas issued a public statement clarifying that the film will not be releasing before April 30. The announcement, shared on X, urged viewers awaiting refunds for advance bookings to contact theatres for processing.
The distributor further assured loyal membership holders of priority booking access once the new release date is officially confirmed.
As of now, the makers of ‘Jana Nayagan’ have not made a formal announcement. Industry insiders indicate that internal discussions are ongoing, with June 2026 emerging as the most likely release window for Vijay’s much-anticipated swansong.
