Delivery rider killed in car crash near Subhash Nagar Metro in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 21: A 25-year-old delivery rider was killed after a car rammed his electric scooty near Subhash Nagar Metro station in west Delhi during the early hours of Saturday, police said.

According to officials, a PCR call reporting an accident and an injured person was received at Tilak Nagar police station at around 3.26 am. Police teams rushed to the spot near the Subhash Nagar Metro red light on Najafgarh Road, towards Rajouri Garden, where both vehicles involved in the crash were found.

The victim, identified as Hem Shakar (25), had already been shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. He was working as a delivery executive with Zepto and was riding an electric scooty at the time of the incident.

Police said eyewitnesses stated that a Hyundai Verna car allegedly hit the e-scooty from behind. Witnesses also claimed that the accused driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and attempted to flee the spot after hitting the rider.

The accused, identified as Mohit Kumar (27), a resident of Najafgarh and an MCD contractor, was immediately taken into custody. The car involved in the accident has been seized, and an FIR has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station.

Further legal proceedings are underway.
