Chandigarh, Feb 19: The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government in Haryana of distributing expired food items to schoolchildren under the mid-day meal scheme.
In a post on X, AAP alleged that protein bars past their expiry date were handed out to students at a government school in Palwal district. “BJP government is feeding expired items to children in mid-day meal. In a government school in Haryana, protein bars were distributed to children, and these protein bars had already expired in December last year,” the party stated.

The controversy reportedly emerged at a senior secondary school in Chhaysa village in Palwal district, where chocolate milk protein bars intended as nutritional supplements were found to have expired in December 2025. Despite this, the bars were allegedly distributed to students more than 45 days after the expiry date.
Parents who spoke to reporters claimed the expiry date was clearly printed on the wrappers. One parent said the chocolate had expired over 45 days earlier but was still given to their child. Another guardian alleged that the bars were distributed shortly before the issue was detected.
According to reports, after a parent alerted school authorities about the expiry date, the remaining stock was withdrawn. However, wrappers bearing the December 2025 expiry date were reportedly found on the school premises, suggesting that some students may have consumed the bars before corrective action was taken.
Abdul Karim, head of the school’s monitoring committee, acknowledged there had been a lapse and said the matter warranted an enquiry. He added that a detailed investigation should be conducted into the incident.
