Brahmavar, Feb 18: With the theme ‘Surakshit Tat, Samruddh Bharat’ (Secure Coastline, Prosperous India), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has organised the ‘Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026’, a large-scale national awareness campaign focusing on coastal security and patriotism.

Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026 was grandly welcomed by the district administration, Zilla Panchayat Udupi, Youth Empowerment and Sports Department to the Udupi district followed by a formal event.

Speaking at an interactive programme held at the conference hall of Ashraya Hotel in Brahmavara, on February 18, CISF deputy commandant Sandeep Chakravarthy said that the cyclothon commenced on January 28 and will continue until February 22. The campaign covers nine states in 25 days. “Our team comprises 50% women participants. CISF’s prime motto is security and protection,” he said.

CISF assistant commandant Durgesh Kal said the cyclothon carries the message of ‘Surakshit Tat (Karavali), Surakshit Bharat.’ He emphasised the vital role of coastal communities in preventing smuggling and other illegal activities. “Our coastal community members are our eyes and ears. Their proactive cooperation helps in controlling crimes along the coastline. We deeply respect their support,” he stated.

Brahmavara Sports Club president Biju Naik lauded the initiative, describing it as an effective way to spread awareness starting from Gujarat through a cyclothon. He urged citizens to inform the police about any suspicious activities and said NCC students bear greater responsibility in safeguarding the nation.”

Rahul, a member of the cyclothon team, said today the riders had started their journey from Murudeshwar and were scheduled to reach Mangaluru after covering 160 kilometres in a day. “Half of our team consists of women, reflecting women empowerment with equal energy and enthusiasm. Nearly 95% of trade happens through coastal regions. If our coasts are secure, our country is secure. We are connecting with fishermen to prevent illegal smuggling through coastal routes,” he said.

The 6,553-kilometre-long cycle rally is travelling from Lakhpat in Gujarat to Bakkhali in West Bengal, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’ while spreading awareness about coastal security.

A total of 130 cyclists are participating in the rally, 65 east coast and 65 west coast, thereby promoting the message of women empowerment. The campaign aims to interact with coastal communities and educate them about safeguarding the nation’s coastline. The campaign has received an excellent response across Karnataka and the awareness drive has been successful. The campaign will conclude in Kochi.
