New Delhi, Feb 18: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday appealed to Hindu families to have at least three children, stating that while there is “no threat”, vigilance and social awareness are necessary.
Speaking at a social harmony event held at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Bhagwat cited views that societies with an average fertility rate below three may face decline in the future. He urged newly married couples to be made aware of this concern and said families should consider having at least three children.

Emphasising the institution of marriage, Bhagwat said its true purpose is to “carry forward creation” and not merely the fulfilment of personal desires.
The RSS chief also stressed the need for unity and empowerment within Hindu society.
“There is a need to unite and empower Hindus. There is no threat to us but vigilance is necessary,” he said.
Expressing concern over what he described as a “declining Hindu population”, Bhagwat stated that religious conversions carried out through inducement or coercion should be stopped.
He further called for action against infiltrators, stating that once identified, such individuals should be “detected, deleted and deported.”
Highlighting the role of women, Bhagwat described “matrushakti” (women power) as the foundation of the household. He said women should not be considered weak and should be trained in self-defence.
He added that Indian tradition accords women a revered place in society and values nurturing qualities over physical appearance.
