Alcoa to pay A$55 million for bauxite mine site clean-up in Western Australia

Canberra, Feb 18: Australia’s Environment Ministry on Wednesday said that Alcoa will pay A$55 million (approximately $38.86 million) towards the rehabilitation and clean-up of a former bauxite mine site in the state of Western Australia.

According to officials, the payment forms part of environmental restoration efforts to address legacy impacts of mining operations at the site. The funds will be utilised for land rehabilitation and to ensure compliance with environmental standards set by authorities.

The ministry stated that the clean-up initiative is aimed at safeguarding local ecosystems and restoring the affected area in line with regulatory requirements.

(As per exchange rate, $1 equals 1.4152 Australian dollars.)
