Srinagar, Feb 17: Three detainees, including two Pakistani nationals, escaped from a Juvenile Observation Home in the R S Pura area of Jammu on Monday evening after opening fire on police personnel guarding the facility, injuring two cops.

According to police sources, the incident occurred at around 5.05 pm inside the Juvenile Observation Home in R S Pura. The inmates allegedly fired at two policemen on duty before fleeing from the premises.

The escapees have been identified as Ahsan Anwar and Mohammad Sanaullah, both Pakistani nationals, and Karanjit Singh alias Gugga, a resident of R S Pura in Jammu.

The injured policemen, identified as Vinay Kumar and Praveen Kumar, were initially referred to a nearby health centre and later shifted to Government Medical College Jammu for specialised treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable.

Soon after the incident, senior police officials along with paramilitary contingents rushed to the juvenile home to assess the situation. Security forces have launched a massive manhunt to track down the trio.

Temporary checkpoints have been set up in and around R S Pura and adjoining areas. Vehicles are being thoroughly searched and identity cards of commuters are being checked as part of intensified security measures.

Police have also initiated an investigation to determine how the detainees managed to procure firearms inside the juvenile facility.

“It will be investigated how the firearms reached the juvenile home. It will be probed who brought the weapons there and under whose directions,” sources said.
