Mangaluru, Feb 10: St Joseph Engineering College (Autonomous), (SJEC), will formally inaugurate its silver jubilee celebrations on Thursday, February 12, marking 25 years of its journey in higher education. The inaugural ceremony will be held at the SJEC campus, Vamanjoor, and will commence at 10:30 am. The inaugural ceremony will be preceded by the silver jubilee inaugural eucharistic celebration, to be held at St Pio Chapel at 9 am.
Established in 2002, as a visionary initiative of Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, then bishop of Mangaluru, SJEC was conceived as a value-based institution committed to providing quality professional education to deserving students. Over the past two and a half decades, the college has evolved from a modest beginning with four undergraduate engineering programmes into a leading autonomous institution under Visvesvaraya Technological University(VTU).

Key milestones in SJEC’s journey include the early adoption of outcome-based education, successful NBA accreditation of multiple programmes, NAAC A+ accreditation, and the conferment of autonomous status in 2021. The institution has steadily expanded its academic offerings, strengthened faculty research and sponsored projects, improved placement outcomes, and invested significantly in infrastructure. In recent years, SJEC has also emerged as a regional hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup ecosystems, supported by government funding and industry collaboration.
The silver jubilee inaugural ceremony will be graced by U T Khader, speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly as the chief guest.
The guests of honour for the occasion will include Dr Bharath Shetty, MLA; Ramanath Rai, senior leader and former minister; Ivan D’Souza, member of the Legislative Council; J R Lobo, former MLA; and the distinguished ecclesiastical leaders Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi; Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop emeritus and founder president of SJEC. The inaugural event will be presided over by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangaluru and president of SJEC.
The inaugural programme will feature a ceremonial procession, lighting of the ceremonial lamp, a visual showcase of The SJEC Story, unveiling of the silver jubilee logo, announcements of silver jubilee student scholarships and staff initiatives, release of the Silver Jubilee Coffee Table Book cover, and the presentation of plans for commemorative infrastructure projects. The event will conclude with blessings by the bishops and a cultural presentation.
The silver jubilee year (February 2026 – February 2027) will encompass a series of academic, research, cultural, sports, alumni, industry, and community engagement programmes, reaffirming SJEC’s commitment to quality education, innovation, and social responsibility.
