Imphal, Feb 10: Security forces have arrested three militants belonging to a proscribed outfit in connection with a bomb explosion that occurred in Manipur’s Imphal West district three days ago, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the accused are active cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Apunba). They were apprehended from different locations in Imphal West and Imphal East districts following sustained investigations into the blast incident reported at the Lilong Chajing area.

“Following an investigation into the bomb explosion case, three active cadres of the banned KCP (Apunba) were arrested during the last two days,” the police statement said.
During the arrests, security personnel recovered a pistol along with ammunition from the militants’ possession, officials added.

Security forces have intensified search and counter-insurgency operations across Manipur since May 2023, when ethnic violence erupted between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities.

The prolonged unrest has so far claimed over 260 lives and left thousands displaced, with security agencies continuing efforts to curb militant activities and restore normalcy in the state.
