Inauguration of NSS annual special camp 2026 at Holy Angels Higher Primary School, Shirthady

Mangaluru, Feb 8: The NSS Unit of Milagres College, organised its annual special camp from February 6 to 12. The camp was formally inaugurated on February 6 at the camp site, Holy Angels Higher Primary School, Shirthady. The inauguration marked the beginning of a week-long residential programme aimed at fostering social responsibility, leadership qualities, and a spirit of service among student volunteers. The programme commenced with an invocation, creating a reflective and meaningful atmosphere.

The camp was formally inaugurated by Bonaventure Nazareth through the symbolic watering of a sapling. Addressing the volunteers, he briefed them on the objectives, rules, and expectations of the camp and emphasised the importance of discipline, teamwork, and wholehearted participation as the core values of the NSS annual special camp.

Dr Alwin Serrao, principal in his address, highlighted the significant role of NSS in shaping socially conscious youth. He stressed the importance of experiential learning, community engagement, and volunteerism in higher education, and encouraged the volunteers to make the best use of the camp by learning from real-life situations and contributing meaningfully to society.

The programme was graced by the presence of Austin D’Sa, vice president of the Church Pastoral Council; Silvia D’Sa, secretary of the Church Pastoral Council; Wilfred Pinto, coordinator of the Church Council; Daina Lobo, principal, Milagres Nursing College; and Favia Crastha, who extended their support and encouragement to the volunteers.

The programme was gracefully compered by Spoorti, NSS secretary, who ensured the smooth and systematic conduct of the event. The gathering was welcomed by Joel Mascarenhas, NSS programme officer. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Vanya, NSS volunteer, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, organisers, volunteers, and all those who contributed to the success of the inauguration ceremony.

The inauguration programme successfully set a positive and enthusiastic tone for the NSS annual special camp, inspiring the volunteers to actively participate in the planned activities and serve the community with dedication and commitment.
