New Delhi, Feb 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a pointed critique of the Congress party during his reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, accusing past Congress-led governments of lacking vision, foresight, and decisive action.
Referring to speeches delivered by Congress Prime Ministers from the Red Fort on Independence Day, Modi said they revealed an absence of long-term planning and national direction. He asserted that this policy vacuum led to decades of missed opportunities and economic setbacks for the country.

Expressing gratitude to Indian citizens for entrusting him with governance, the Prime Minister highlighted that a major focus of his administration has been to rectify legacy issues left by previous governments. This, he said, has been paired with a forward-looking, structured approach to policymaking, replacing ad-hoc decisions with strategic reforms.
Modi underscored his administration’s guiding principle: “Reform, Transform, Perform,” declaring that India is now firmly on the “reform express.” He pointed to comprehensive sectoral reforms spanning agriculture, industry, services, infrastructure, technology, and defense, aimed at enhancing global competitiveness and fostering innovation.
The address came amid disruptions in the Budget Session, with Opposition protests in the Lok Sabha preventing the Prime Minister from delivering his full reply there on Wednesday. Despite initial sloganeering in the Rajya Sabha, Modi proceeded to outline the government’s achievements and future agenda, contrasting it sharply with what he described as the Congress era’s policy paralysis and short-sighted governance.
He emphasized that these reforms have strengthened India’s domestic confidence and international credibility, earning trust from other nations and positioning the country for sustainable growth and global influence.
