Ranchi, Feb 3: A 24-year-old chartered accountancy (CA) aspirant died after allegedly attempting suicide along with two members of his family at their residence in Ranchi, police said on Tuesday. His mother and minor sister are battling for life and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday when the three allegedly consumed an overdose of sleeping pills due to severe financial stress and domestic tensions. The youth, identified as Mihir, later hanged himself, while his mother Sneha Akhori, a High Court advocate, and his 14-year-old sister were rushed to Guru Nanak Hospital, where their condition remains critical.

Mihir had recently returned to Ranchi after completing his CA studies in Kolkata and was reportedly employed with a private firm. Preliminary inquiries suggest the family was under intense debt-related pressure, which may have driven them to take the extreme step.

A forensic team visited the house and collected evidence as part of the investigation. Police officials said further details would emerge after recording statements and examining medical and forensic reports.

Authorities are continuing to probe the circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
