Commercial LPG price hiked by Rs 49, domestic rates unchanged

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 1: Oil marketing companies on Sunday increased the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 49, with the revised rates coming into effect from February 1.

Following the hike, the retail price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in the national capital now stands at Rs 1,740.50. However, there has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder, offering continued relief to household consumers.

The latest revision comes close on the heels of a price hike in January, when commercial LPG cylinder rates were raised, adding to the cost pressures faced by hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments. Last month, oil marketing companies had increased the price of a 19-kg commercial cylinder by Rs 111, taking its retail price in Delhi to Rs 1,691.50.

In addition to commercial LPG, the price of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders was also raised by Rs 27 with effect from January 1.

Officials noted that while domestic LPG prices have remained stable, the repeated hikes in commercial LPG rates are likely to impact sectors heavily dependent on such fuel, including eateries, catering services and small businesses, where fuel costs form a major part of operational expenses.
