New Delhi, Jan 28: Floor leaders of several opposition parties under the INDIA bloc met at Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge’s chamber in the Parliament House complex on Wednesday, resolving to strongly raise the issues of MGNREGA repeal and Special Infrastructure Regions (SIR) during the ongoing Budget session.

The meeting saw participation from key leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretaries Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal, DMK’s T R Baalu, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Arvind Sawant, Samajwadi Party’s Javed Ali Khan, RJD’s Premchand Gupta, CPI(M)’s John Brittas, and RSP’s N K Premchandran, among others.

According to sources, the leaders discussed the opposition’s strategy for the Budget session and reaffirmed their commitment to highlight the government’s stance on MGNREGA repeal and SIR projects.

The meeting follows a decision by top Congress leaders on Tuesday at Sonia Gandhi’s residence, where the Parliamentary Strategy Group convened with Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Leaders of Opposition, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, to chart out their approach despite the government’s reluctance to re-debate these issues in Parliament.

The opposition is expected to push for comprehensive discussions on the implications of MGNREGA repeal, focusing on the social and economic impact on rural India, while also scrutinizing the government’s policies on SIRs.
