Patna, Jan 26: Two separate road accidents in Bihar over the past 24 hours have left three people dead and several others injured, highlighting growing concerns over road safety.
In Patna’s Pirmohani locality under the Kadamkuan police station, a speeding Scorpio SUV ran over three people on Monday morning. Munna Kumar, 41, a municipal corporation employee from Khatal Gali, died on the spot, while two others, including another municipal worker and a paper vendor, sustained serious injuries. At the time of the accident, Munna Kumar was reportedly working at the residence of a BJP leader. Locals and police quickly rushed the victims to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment and post-mortem procedures. The SUV driver fled the scene immediately, and police are reviewing CCTV footage and conducting a manhunt to apprehend the accused. The incident has left the victim’s family devastated.

Meanwhile, in Samastipur district, tragedy struck late Sunday night when a tractor overturned near the Shanti River bridge under Chakmehsi police station while returning from a Saraswati Puja immersion ceremony. Seven-year-old Abhiraj and four-year-old Anushka, siblings from Bhusakaul village, died in the mishap. Two other children, critically injured, were rushed first to Kalyanpur Primary Health Centre and later to Sadar Hospital, Samastipur, for emergency care. According to villagers, the tractor lost control while trying to give way to another vehicle. Locals, aided by a JCB machine and police, rescued the trapped children, but Abhiraj and Anushka had already succumbed to their injuries. Authorities confirmed that the deceased children belonged to Chakmehsi Panchayat and have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Both incidents have plunged the affected families into grief and underscored the urgent need for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future.
