Mangaluru, Jan 25: The third edition of Angling Carnival 2026, a major saltwater fishing competition, was successfully held at the North Breakwater near Panambur Beach, attracting anglers and fishing enthusiasts from across the country and abroad.

The two-day carnival, held on Jan 24 and 25, featured an Arabian Sea angling competition in which participants competed to catch the maximum number of fish as well as the heaviest fish, making the event both thrilling and competitive. The scenic breakwater location turned into a vibrant hub as anglers showcased their skills amid challenging sea conditions.

A special highlight of the event was its eco-friendly ‘catch and release’ format. Fish caught during the competition were carefully weighed and recorded before being released back into the sea alive, promoting marine conservation and sustainable fishing practices.

Angling Carnival has grown into one of the largest angling events on the west coast, drawing wide attention for its unique blend of sport, adventure and environmental responsibility. The event also aimed to promote coastal tourism in Mangaluru and highlight the region’s rich marine biodiversity.

Organisers said the increasing participation and public interest reflect the rising popularity of angling as a sport and recreational activity in coastal Karnataka. The carnival concluded with prize distribution to winners in various categories amid an enthusiastic response from participants and spectators.
