Ponda. Jan 25: A 25-year-old man was critically injured after his motorcycle crashed into a broken-down truck near the Curti flyover on Saturday evening, police said.

The injured has been identified as Suraj Tiwari, a resident of Usgao. He was riding towards Ponda town when he lost control of his two-wheeler and rammed into the parked truck from behind.

Tiwari sustained serious injuries in the impact and was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ponda for treatment. His condition was stated to be critical.

The Ponda police registered a case of motor vehicle accident after conducting a panchanama at the spot.

Sources said the loaded truck had broken down a few days ago and had been left by the side of the road since then. Locals expressed concern over the delay in removing such vehicles from the carriageway, alleging that heavy vehicles are frequently seen abandoned along roadsides with slow action taken to clear them, posing a serious risk to motorists.
