Washington, Jan 21: US President Donald Trump’s Air Force One returned to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland late Tuesday after the crew detected a “minor electrical issue” shortly after takeoff for Switzerland, the White House said.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the plane turned back as a precaution. The aircraft landed at 11:07 p.m. ET. Shortly before midnight, Trump boarded a smaller Air Force One jet and continued his journey to the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Pool reporters at the scene described hectic activity as staffers quickly moved boxes of fruit, wrapped sandwiches, beverages, and luggage during the transition. Several suitcases were seen being loaded onto a truck while the crew ensured a swift turnaround.
The presidential air fleet currently comprises two specially configured Boeing jets that have served decades, while replacements have faced multiple delays. The new Air Force One program, converting two 747-8 aircraft with advanced communications and defence systems, is now expected for delivery by mid-2028, four years behind schedule.
In May, the US accepted a luxury Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar, which is being upgraded rapidly for presidential use.
