New Delhi, Jan 21: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the people of Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur on the occasion of their Statehood Day, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and valuable contributions of the three northeastern states to the nation.
In a social media post, the President said the states are blessed with a vibrant cultural legacy, diverse traditions and exceptional natural beauty. She noted that the enterprising and talented people of Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur have played a significant role in India’s progress and development, and wished the residents a future marked by peace, prosperity and harmony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his greetings to the people of the three states through separate social media messages.
Extending his wishes to Meghalaya, the Prime Minister said the people of the state have made strong contributions to the country’s development. He praised Meghalaya’s cultural vibrancy and scenic beauty, and expressed hope that the state would continue to scale new heights of progress in the years ahead.
In his message to Tripura, Prime Minister Modi said the state’s journey reflects a remarkable blend of tradition and modernity. He noted that Tripura has witnessed pioneering transformations across various sectors and that its people are adding momentum to the nation’s growth story. The Prime Minister prayed for the state’s continued prosperity.
Greeting the people of Manipur, the Prime Minister said the Manipuri community is enriching the nation’s progress. He highlighted the state’s deep passion for sports, culture and nature, and expressed confidence that Manipur will continue moving forward on the path of development.
Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur attained statehood on January 21, 1972, and the day is observed annually to commemorate their formation as full-fledged states of the Indian Union.
