Mangaluru, Jan 20: Four youths were killed and two others critically injured after a high-speed car crash in the Savina police station area of Udaipur in the early hours of Saturday, with a chilling video recorded moments before the accident now surfacing.

According to police sources, six friends were travelling in a car around 3 am when the vehicle, driven at an extremely high speed on the Ahmedabad Bypass, overturned and collided with another car. The impact was so severe that both vehicles were completely mangled.

The video, recorded just before the crash, shows the driver, identified as Sher Mohammad, smoking a cigarette with loud music playing in the car while repeatedly pressing the accelerator. The speedometer reportedly touched 140 kmph. In the footage, one of the passengers seated in the back is seen repeatedly urging the driver not to drive at such a dangerous speed.

Sources said the accident occurred barely 1 minute and 10 seconds after the video recording began. Moments later, the sound of shattering glass is heard, followed by darkness.

After the collision, the occupants reportedly pleaded for help for nearly 10 minutes. By the time locals reached the spot, four of the friends had succumbed to their injuries, while the remaining two were found seriously injured and writhing in pain inside the car. They were rushed to hospital and are stated to be in critical condition.

What was meant to be a celebration of a friend’s birthday turned into a tragedy. Police said the group had attended a ‘Mehfil-e-Milad’ programme near Nela Talab in the Savina area and were heading to a nearby place for tea when the accident occurred.

The incident has once again highlighted the deadly consequences of rash driving and overspeeding. Police are investigating the case further and examining the video footage as part of the probe.
