New Delhi, Jan 18: Industrialist late Sanjay Kapoor’s second wife Priya Kapoor has approached the Supreme Court seeking certified copies of records related to the 2016 divorce proceedings between actor Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor.
A bench headed by Justice A S Chandurkar will examine whether these confidential documents can be made available to Priya Kapoor. In her petition, Priya has sought certified copies of the divorce petition, documents submitted before the court, orders passed by the Supreme Court, and in particular, records related to the settlement agreement entered into by her late husband concerning financial arrangements and child maintenance.

The settlement terms and related details were accessible only to Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. The high-profile divorce proceedings in 2016 were partly conducted in the judge’s chambers. The settlement was amicable and arrived at through mutual consent.
The Supreme Court had recorded the “consent terms” signed by both parties, under which the custody of their two children was granted to Karisma Kapoor, while Sanjay Kapoor was given visitation rights.
After the hearing before a bench of Justices A K Sikri and R K Agrawal, counsel appearing for Karisma Kapoor had informed the court that all pending disputes between the couple had been amicably resolved.
Following the death of industrialist Sanjay Kapoor in July last year, Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor, have become embroiled in a dispute over ancestral property. According to reports, the disputed will of the late industrialist bequeaths most of his assets to his wife Priya Kapoor.
Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor have moved the High Court alleging that the signatures on the will are not those of their father and have accused Priya Kapoor of fabricating documents. They have sought examination of the original will, which was placed before the High Court in a sealed cover in September last year.
The children have also sought an interim injunction restraining Priya Kapoor from managing or transferring properties belonging to Sanjay Kapoor until the dispute is resolved.
