Delhi, Jan 17: Amid growing speculation that the Centre may explore the formation of a new government in violence-hit Manipur, former chief minister N Biren Singh arrived in Delhi on Friday and is expected to meet senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and top BJP leaders.
Speaking to mediapersons at Imphal airport before departing, Singh said, “The Centre will take action very soon.” Sources said he was summoned by the BJP’s central leadership. Singh has travelled to Delhi along with BJP Manipur unit president A Sharda Devi.

According to party sources, Singh is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior BJP leaders during his visit. A meeting with the party’s central leadership is expected on Saturday, with discussions likely to focus on the possibility of installing an elected government in the state.
Manipur has been under President’s rule since mid-February 2025. It was imposed on February 13 last year, a day after Biren Singh stepped down ahead of a scheduled no-confidence motion against his government. President’s rule was later extended for another six months from August 13.
With no major incidents of violence reported in recent weeks, there is a growing perception that the Centre may choose not to further extend President’s rule. Last month, the BJP central leadership had held a meeting with party MLAs from Manipur, including legislators from the Kuki-Zo community. However, the Kuki-Zo community has reportedly laid down certain conditions for participating in any future government formation.
The situation remains under close watch as political activity around Manipur intensifies in the national capital.
