Kerala, Jan 15: In a shocking incident, two young trainees were found dead on Thursday at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kollam. The victims have been identified as Sandra, 17, from Kozhikode, an athletics trainee studying in Plus Two, and Vyshnavi, 15, from Thiruvananthapuram, a Class 10 student and kabaddi player.
The grim discovery was made around 5 a.m. when hostel authorities, after repeated attempts to contact the girls failed, forced open the door to their room and found both hanging from ceiling fans. Police confirmed that the incident came to light when fellow hostel inmates noticed the girls had not reported for the morning training session.

According to police, one of the girls normally stayed in a separate room but had spent the night of January 14 in the other girl’s room. Both were last seen by other hostel inmates early Thursday morning.
Kollam East police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Authorities said the reason behind the deaths is yet to be determined, and no suicide note was recovered from the room. Statements will be recorded from other sportspersons residing in the hostel, trainers, and relatives of the victims.
The bodies are to be handed over to the families after post-mortem examinations are completed. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the local community and the sporting fraternity.
