Minneapolis, Jan 11: Social media videos have emerged showing Twin Cities-based artist Noval Noir creating a life-size portrait of Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot by federal agent Jonathan Ross in Minneapolis. Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was reportedly shot after allegedly striking the officer with her vehicle. Ross has been serving as a deportation officer with ICE since 2015.

In the videos, Noir is seen painting Good’s portrait on Portland Avenue. Speaking to the camera, Noir said, “I am painting, I'm live. This is what I do in general and this is how I express myself.” Her Instagram bio highlights her as an artist whose work “examines value, authorship, and presence, with a seven-figure valuation as a cultural position rather than a sale.”

The Instagram page MixedHype shared another video of the portrait, capturing community members gathering at the memorial site. The post described locals offering flowers, snacks, and prayers, noting the emotional impact of the tribute. “Thank you, art can save us,” one passerby reportedly said, reflecting the healing role of Noir’s work amid the tragedy.

The shooting has drawn polarized reactions. The Department of Homeland Security and former President Donald Trump defended the officer’s actions as self-defense. “The woman driving the car was very disorderly,” Trump commented, adding that the ICE agent “seems to have shot her in self-defense.”

Meanwhile, congressional Democrats condemned the incident. Speaker Nancy Pelosi called it “a betrayal of American values,” while Rep. Karen Bass described it as “the senseless killing of an innocent and unarmed wife and mother.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem further stated that Good “stalked and impeded” federal officers throughout the day and “weaponized her vehicle” against them. “The ICE officer, fearing for his life, and the other officers around him… fired defensive shots,” she said during a press conference on January 7, highlighting the officer’s training and response in the incident.

Noir’s artistic tribute continues to draw attention as community members gather to honor Good’s memory, underscoring the intersection of grief, art, and public discourse.
