Anand Swaroop appointed special secretary; Anupama Nilekar Chandra takes over NHRC post

New Delhi, Jan 9: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the appointment of senior IPS officer Anand Swaroop as the new Special Secretary (Internal Security), replacing Praveen Vashista, according to a government order.

A 1992-batch IPS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Swaroop is currently serving as DG(I) at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). His tenure as Special Secretary will continue from the date he assumes charge until August 31, 2029, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

In a related development, the ACC approved the appointment of 1994-batch IPS officer Anupama Nilekar Chandra, currently Special Director General at Sashastra Seema Bal, as Director General (Investigation) at NHRC, taking over from Swaroop.
