GRLA backs Rebello’s call to halt Goa’s environmental destruction

Daijiworld Media Network – Panaji

Panaji, Jan 4: The Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan (GRLA) has extended full support to former Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Ferdino Rebello’s call to stop what it described as the ongoing destruction of Goa through rampant land conversions and hill cutting.

GRLA convenor Kennedy Afonso said Justice Rebello’s appeal for a people’s movement is timely, as Goa is witnessing large-scale damage to land and the environment in the name of development. He alleged that casinos were destroying rivers, while coal handling was harming the environment and posing serious health risks to Goans.

The GRLA has appealed to the people of Goa to come together on January 6, 2026, at the Institute Menezes Braganza Hall in Panaji, where discussions will be held to frame a People’s Charter aimed at protecting the state’s land and ecology.
