Phased helmet rule for pillion riders cleared in Goa

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji

Panaji, Jan 2: The mandatory use of helmets by pillion riders will be implemented in a phased manner, emerging as the key decision at the State Road Safety Council meeting held to strengthen road safety measures across the state.

The council also deliberated on expediting the rollout of the camera-based challaning system, which will now be jointly operated by Beltech and the Directorate of Transport to ensure more effective enforcement of traffic regulations.

The Public Works Department (National Highways) was directed to act on the recommendations outlined in the Road Safety Audit Report. As part of infrastructure-related measures, subways at Bambolim, Verna, Nuvem and Navelim will be inspected to identify necessary improvements aimed at enhancing public usage and safety.

It was further decided to observe National Road Safety Month in January, with a focus on increasing public awareness and reducing road accidents through targeted campaigns and initiatives.
